How Does Actonel With Calcium Work?

The risedronate (Actonel) component binds to certain cells in bones and slows down the rate at which they break down. Calcium is a mineral that is important for healthy bones and is necessary in order for risedronate to be effective.
 

Actonel With Calcium Uses in Children

Actonel With Calcium is not approved for use in children. Talk to your healthcare provider about the benefits and risks of using the drug in children. Actonel With Calcium has been studied in children as a treatment for osteogenesis imperfecta, but has not been shown to be effective for this use.
 

Off-Label Actonel With Calcium Uses

On occasion, your healthcare provider may recommend Actonel With Calcium for something other than the condition listed in this article. The following are considered off-label Actonel With Calcium uses:
 
  • Treating or preventing osteoporosis due to the use of steroids (such as prednisone)
  • Treating osteoporosis in men
  • Treating Paget's disease of the bone.
