Actonel® (risedronate sodium) is a medication often prescribed to treat or prevent osteoporosis. It is used for osteoporosis in men, postmenopausal women, and in both men and women due to the use of steroid medications. Actonel is also approved for the treatment of Paget's disease. The drug works by binding to certain cells in bones and slowing down the rate at which bone breaks down. It comes in tablet form and is taken daily, weekly, or monthly.
