Several side effects are possible with
Actonel® (
risedronate sodium). Hair loss, however, does not appear to be one of them.
Actonel has been studied in thousands of people. In these studies, side effects are carefully recorded and are classified as being common (occurring in 1 percent of people or more) or rare (occurring in less than 1 percent). In these studies, hair loss was not reported as either a common or rare Actonel side effect.
If you experience hair loss while taking Actonel, talk with your healthcare provider. Depending on how severe the hair loss is, there are things that he or she may be able to do. If your symptoms continue to be bothersome, or if your healthcare provider believes that the medicine is causing your hair loss, he or she may recommend trying another medication for Paget's disease or
osteoporosis.
