Actonel Interactions Explained

Actonel is combined with any of the drugs listed above.
Aspirin
Both aspirin and Actonel can be irritating to the stomach. Talk to your healthcare provider before taking aspirin if you are taking Actonel. Of course, no other medications (including aspirin) should be taken within 30 minutes of taking Actonel.
Calcium Products
Calcium binds to Actonel in the stomach, preventing it from being absorbed in the body and making it less effective. While it is usually important for people with
osteoporosis to take calcium, it should not be taken within 30 minutes of taking Actonel.
Iron Supplements
Iron binds to Actonel in the stomach, preventing it from being absorbed in the body and making it less effective. Do not take iron supplements within 30 minutes of taking Actonel.
Magnesium Products
Magnesium binds to Actonel in the stomach, preventing it from being absorbed in the body and making it less effective. Do not take magnesium supplements within 30 minutes of taking Actonel.
Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs
Both
NSAIDs and Actonel can be irritating to the stomach. Talk to your healthcare provider before taking an NSAID if you are taking Actonel. Of course, no other medications (including NSAIDs) should be taken within 30 minutes of taking Actonel.
Teriparatide
In studies, combining
teriparatide with medications like Actonel seemed to make teriparatide less effective. Talk to your healthcare provider before using these medications together.
