Boniva Drug Interactions

To ensure an effective treatment process, food and beverages (besides water) should not be consumed within an hour of taking Boniva. Drug interactions may also occur if Boniva is taken with aspirin, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, or products containing calcium. Boniva drug interactions can prevent the absorption of the medication into the body and reduce its effectiveness.

 

Boniva Drug Interactions: An Overview

Boniva® (ibandronate sodium) can potentially interact with a number of other medications. Some of the medicines that may lead to Boniva interactions include:
 
  • Aspirin
 
  • Calcium-containing products
 
  • Iron supplements
 
  • Magnesium-containing products
 
  • Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as:
 
 
Food and beverages (other than water) can also interact with Boniva, preventing it from being absorbed into the body and making it less effective. Boniva should be taken with water in the morning on an empty stomach. Do not eat or drink anything (besides water) for an hour after taking your Boniva dosage.
