Calcitonin (Cont.)

How Should Calcitonin Be Stored?

Store calcitonin injection in the refrigerator; be sure to avoid freezing it. Keep calcitonin injection and all other medications out of the reach of children.

Each unopened calcitonin nasal spray bottle should be stored in the refrigerator, but must be stored at room temperature once opened. Before you use each bottle for the first time, make sure to let it warm up to room temperature. Keep calcitonin nasal spray and all other medications out of the reach of children. Once you have assembled the nasal spray bottle, it must be stored upright, not on its side.

You must discard your bottle of calcitonin nasal spray after it has been opened for a certain period of time (35 days for Miacalcin nasal spray and 30 days for Fortical nasal spray).

What Should I Do If I Miss a Dose of Calcitonin?

If you do not take your calcitonin as scheduled and remember on the same day, take your missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule. Do not take a double dose.

Who Makes Calcitonin?
