Calcium is a commonly used dietary supplement. It is mainly stored in the bones and teeth, where it functions to support their structure. The mineral is also often claimed to be beneficial for preventing or treating high phosphate levels in people with kidney disease, lowering blood pressure, and treating symptoms of premenstrual syndrome (PMS). If you are pregnant, have kidney stones, or have sarcoidosis, be sure to consult your healthcare provider before taking any calcium supplements.
