Forteo Drug Interactions

When certain medicines are combined with Forteo, drug interactions may occur that could reduce the effectiveness of the medications or lead to serious side effects. Bisphosphonates and digoxin are medicines that can potentially cause negative interactions. To help reduce the risk of Forteo drug interactions, make sure your healthcare provider knows about all other drugs you are taking, both prescription and non-prescription.

 

Forteo Drug Interactions: An Overview

Forteo™ (teriparatide) can potentially interact with a few different medications. Some of the medicines that may lead to Forteo drug interactions include:
 
  • Bisphosphonates, such as:
 
 
  • Digoxin (Digitek®, Lanoxin®).

Bisphosphonates
In studies, combining bisphosphonates with medications like Forteo seemed to make bisphosphonate less effective. Talk to your healthcare provider before using these medications at the same time. Many people who take Forteo have already tried a bisphosphonate, and it is okay to take Forteo after taking a bisphosphonate (just not at the same time).
