Available in the form of a nasal spray, Fortical® (calcitonin salmon nasal spray) is used for the treatment of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. It is usually taken once a day as one spray, alternating nostrils each time. The drug is a synthetic version of calcitonin, a naturally occurring hormone that helps regulate bone formation and breakdown.
 
This medication is not suitable for everyone. Before prescribing Fortical, your healthcare provider needs to know about any other drugs you are taking and any allergies you have. Though generally well tolerated, side effects are possible and may include:
