Miacalcin Nasal Spray and Breastfeeding

Since no studies have been conducted on Miacalcin nasal spray and breastfeeding, it is not known whether the medicine passes through breast milk in humans. Even if it does pass through, however, the drug is likely to be destroyed by the infant's digestive system. It is important to note that Miacalcin nasal spray is not approved for premenopausal women (such as breastfeeding women).

 

Miacalcin Nasal Spray and Breastfeeding: An Overview

At this time, it is not known whether Miacalcin® nasal spray (calcitonin salmon nasal spray) passes through breast milk in humans. The manufacturer of the drug does not recommend that women breastfeed while using it. If you are breastfeeding or are thinking about breastfeeding, you should talk with your healthcare provider before taking Miacalcin nasal spray.
 

Miacalcin Nasal Spray and Breastfeeding: What Does the Research Say?

No studies have been conducted on whether Miacalcin nasal spray passes through breast milk in women. However, even if the drug is passed through breast milk, it is likely to be destroyed and inactivated by the infant's digestive system, because it is a delicate molecule that must be given by injection or nasal spray. However, until Miacalcin nasal spray has been shown to be safe for breastfeeding women and their infants, it may be a good idea to avoid taking the medicine while breastfeeding. Miacalcin nasal spray appears to decrease the production of milk in animals.
 
It is important to point out that Miacalcin nasal spray is not approved for premenopausal women, including women who are breastfeeding.
