Fosamax Plus D -- Drug Information

Fosamax Plus D™ (alendronate and cholecalciferol) is approved for the following uses:
 
  • Treating osteoporosis in postmenopausal women
  • Increasing bone mass in men with osteoporosis.

This drug is available by prescription only and contains two active ingredients: alendronate (a bisphosphonate osteoporosis medication) and cholecalciferol (vitamin D). It comes in tablet form and is taken once a week. Indigestion and bone pain are some of the most commonly reported side effects.
 
Before using Fosamax Plus D, make sure your healthcare provider has up-to-date information on any other drugs you are taking, including vitamins and supplements, as well as any allergies you may have, including to medications, foods, dyes, or preservatives. Also, let your healthcare provider know if you have difficulty swallowing, abnormal blood calcium levels, or kidney disease.
